🪴HOW TO & TIPS
Yesterday marked a special anniversary.
It was the day the first Harry Potter film hit theatres (yes, feel old).
So in true Sheffield Made Plants fashion, I thought we’d celebrate the only way I know how: by imagining what houseplants each Harry Potter character would be.
Grab your wand (or watering can), because it’s time to enter the Herbology Greenhouse.
🪄 Harry Potter — Fiddle Leaf Fig (Ficus lyrata)
Big personality. Slightly dramatic. Needs consistency and attention to reach its full potential.
Much like Harry, when conditions are right, it becomes a leader — bold, reliable, and impossible to ignore.
Care: Bright, indirect light, regular watering, and the occasional pep talk.
🦉 Hermione Granger — String of Pearls (Senecio rowleyanus)
Intelligent, detail-oriented, and just a bit of a show-off (in the best way).
The String of Pearls grows neatly and methodically, but one wrong move like too much water or too little sun and it’ll let you know.
Care: Lots of bright light, minimal watering, and don’t overcomplicate things (she’s already clever enough).
🐍 Draco Malfoy — Variegated Monstera (Monstera deliciosa ‘Albo’)
Rare. Dramatic. Expensive. Needs everything just so.
But when happy, it’s stunning — and, if we’re honest, secretly everyone’s favourite villain in the collection.
Care: Keep humidity high, light bright, and ego even higher.
🔥 Ron Weasley — Pothos (Golden) (Epipremnum aureum)
The ultimate loyal sidekick plant.
Reliable, forgiving, and always there when you need it. Not the flashiest, but always brightens the room.
Care: Water when dry, tolerate your chaos, and thrives even if you forget it for a week.
🪴 Rubeus Hagrid — Monstera Deliciosa
Big-hearted, impossible to miss, and always taking up more space than you expect.
A gentle giant that starts small and grows into something wild and magnificent — just like Hagrid’s love for his “little” creatures.
Care: Give it space, bright light, and regular pruning (before it swallows the house).
💀 Severus Snape — ZZ Raven (Zamioculcas zamiifolia ‘Raven’)
Mysterious, brooding, and somehow timeless.
Dark leaves. Slow growth. And an ability to thrive in low light — much like Snape’s ability to thrive on pure spite.
Care: Water sparingly. Respect the shadows. Appreciate the complexity.
And that’s our Hogwarts Herbology class complete
But here’s a question for you…
Which houseplant do you think you’d be?
Are you a dependable Pothos like Ron, or a dramatic Fiddle Leaf Fig like Harry himself?
Hit reply and let me know — bonus points if you assign yourself a Hogwarts House too.
